HALAWA (KHNL) - Saturday is the big day. It's been exactly nine months and five days since the last Hawaii football home game.
Tailgaters had their game face on Saturday at Aloha Stadium.
Whether it's great food or good company, tailgaters were even happier to just be out here to welcome the upcoming football season.
The theme saturday in warrior tailgating land was all about having fun.
"It feels good, look how many people we got here, it's exciting, I even scolded my wife, we're too late," Aiea's Cal Oshiro said.
The hot sun didn't scare away the people who root for the Warriors. Gordon and Sharon Tsuji have been tailgating with their friends for more than 30 years.
"Yes, football is back, I don't see these people when we tailgate, this is the only time we see each other," Gordon Tsuji said.
Fans gathered in this parking lot to tailgate as soon as the gates opened at one-thirty.
"Nice, sunny, good local food, not just hamburger, so that's what we like about tailgating, catch up on the news that we haven't caught up before," Sharon Tsuji said.
For the Tsuji's, the new football season is more than just a game to them.
"But then if you come later on, you don't have time to socialize and talk, because we don't sit together in the stadium, it's just a good catch up time, learn what they're doing, what has happened over the last year," Sharon Tsuji said.
A year that couldn't have come sooner for almost every tailgater out there.
"Feels great to be back, season starting again, it's just the beginning, season gonna be great, I can see," Waimanalo's Thomas Cathcart said.
A game that's worth the wait, even with the sizzling temperatures.
