Missing hiker search called off

HONOLULU (KHNL) - The Honolulu Fire Department has called off the search for a 77-year-old hiker missing in the Aiea area.

Search teams were looking for Jon Parsons who may be lost on a hiking trail.

HFD searched the Waimalu Ditch area for three days, covering about 12 square miles.   Crews also flew over 25 square miles.

Officials say they will not resume the search unless new information becomes available.  It is now classified as a missing person's case.

Parsons was last seen on September 4 at about 10:00 a.m. leaving a friend's house on Kaonohi Street. 

He planned to go hiking on the trail Onikiniki Place in upper Pearl City and has not been seen or heard from since.

Parsons is Caucasian.  He's 5'11 and weighs 160 pounds. He has gray and black hair.  He was wearing a red short-sleeved t-shirt, tan colored shorts and hiking boots.
