Crews discover body of missing swimmer

WAIANAE (KHNL) - Search crews discovered the body of a missing swimmer along the Waianae coast Tuesday morning.

The Honolulu Fire Department's divers recovered the body in the water, about ten miles off of barbers point.

Officials say 28-year-old Pele Kaio of Nanakuli was reported missing Monday night.

Family members say Pele often swam in the area off Black Rock Beach.

"He was free swimming in this area, the pool over here and while they were swimming, a bunch of their friends about four or five of them went to lay the net," said Pauahi Leoiki, a family friend. "He went along to assist them but when everyone came back no one saw him come back up to the sand."

Family members positively identified the body is that of Kaio's.

The Medical Examiner is now working to determine Kaio's exact cause of death.
