New details on Monday's Parade of Champions

HONOLULU (KHNL) - More past and present sports champions have been confirmed to participate in the special Parade of Champions in Waikiki on Monday, September 1.

They include:

  • Olympian Natasha Kai (Soccer)
  • Olympian Clarissa Chun (Wrestling)
  • Olympian Robyn Ah Mow-Santos (Volleyball)
  • Olympian Jared Heine (Swimming, Marshall Islands)
  • Olympian Anju Jason (Tae Kwon Do, Marshall Islands)
  • Past Olympian Richard "Sonny" Tanabe (Swimming, 1956)
  • Past Olympian Barbara Perry (Volleyball, 1968)
  • Past Olympian Kathy Hammond (Track, 1972)
  • Past Olympian Verneda Thomas (Volleyball, 1964)
  • Past Olympian Fanny Hopeau (Volleyball, 1968)
  • Past Olympian Kevin Asano (Judo, 1988)
  • 2008 National Bobby Sox 6U Champions
  • USSSA World Series Baseball U10 Oahu Dirtbags
  • Royal Hawaiian Band
  • marching bands from Aiea, Castle, Mililani and Waipahu high schools

The parade begins at 5:00 p.m.

Olympian Bryan Clay will appear via video at the special Sunset on the Beach event on Queen's Surf beach at 6:45 p.m.

Parking is expected to be difficult in Waikiki on Labor Day, and the public is encouraged to plan accordingly or use public transportation.
