HONOLULU (KHNL) - It's a disturbing sight in the waters off Kaneohe Bay. A number of hammer head shark pups are found dead.
According to the Nature Conservancy, as many as 16 hammerhead shark pups were killed, apparently the result of an illegal lay gill net that was left unattended and in the water for more than four hours -- the maximum time allowed.
DLNR's Deborah Ward says the net was not registered and it was longer than the maximum legnth allowed.
Violators can face up to $3,000 in fines.
