Hawaii-based soldier dies in Iraq

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KHNL) - A Hawaii-based soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom died in Iraq.

The Department of Defense says 25-year-old Sgt. Kenneth B. Gibson of Christiansburg, Virginia died on August 10 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his position during dismounted operations. 

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
