Investigators say leaked oil is the cause of haze on American flight

HONOLULU (KHNL) - We now know what caused the emergency landing and evacuation of a Honolulu-bound flight Tuesday morning.

An American Airlines official says oil that leaked and overheated, caused smoke to fill the cabin.

He says the problem has been fixed.

The Boeing 757 returned to Los Angeles International where it made an emergency landing just before 10:00 a.m. California time.

Evacuating down emergency slides, passengers were later put on a different aircraft for their second transpacific flight of the day.
