WAILUKU, Maui (KHNL) - Good news for people who live or work in West Maui.
A new fixed bus route will bring bus riders into and around the heart of Lahaina for a very attractive price: free.
The new "lahaina Villager" Route #23 will travel through several area neighborhoods in Lahaina, including Lahaina Road and will make a continous loop through Lahaina Town.
Other major stops include the Lahaina Aquatics Center and the Lahaina Civic Center.
Mayor Charmaine Tavares says this new route will provide traffic relief and mobility for West Maui residents and visitors, especially in the historic Lahaina district.
The Lahaina Villager route will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. starting August 1.
Also beginning August 1, the Maui Bus will begin expanded bus service for the Upcountry Islander and Haiku Islander routes, which will operate every one-and-a-half hour instead of every three hours.
The Upcountry Islander will begin at 6 a.m. From the Queen Kaahumanu Center with the last departure from the Center at 9:00 p.m.
The Haiku Islander will begin at 5:30 a.m. From the Queen Kaahumanu Center with the last departure from the Center at 8:30 p.m.
