Box jelly fish found on Oahu's beaches

OAHU (KHNL) - Ocean Safety officials were busy Monday morning assessing Oahu's beaches for box jellyfish.

Officials counted a total of 586 box jellyfish in the Waikiki/Ala Moana area, with a reported 111 stings in Waikiki and one sting at Ala Moana Beach Park.

On the Windward side, a total of three box jellyfish were found at Hanauma Bay.  15 stings were reported in less than one hour, forcing officials to close the Bay.

No box jellyfish were found or reported on the North Shore or the West Side.

Officials say anyone stung by box jellyfish are advised to flush the sting area with white vinegar.  Anyone experiencing breathing difficulty, muscle cramps, spasms, or persistent pain are advised to seek immediate medical attention.
