Maui residents invited to participate in sand sculpture contest

MAALAEA, Maui (KHNL) - In celebration of wild dolphins, Maui residents and visitors are invited to spend a creative day at the beach by participating in a free amateur Wild Dolphin Sand Sculpture Contest.

The winners of the "Best Overall Family or Ohana Entry" will receive tickets for four on Pacific Whale Foundation's Lanai Wild Dolphin & Snorkel Eco-adventure.  There are also prizes for "Best Individual Entry," "Most Realistic Dolphin," and "Funniest Dolphin."

All participants will receive a free wild dolphin watching guide and a free wild dolphin poster.

The event takes place on Saturday, August 16 at the north end of Keawakapu Beach in South Kihei.

Participants can sign up at the Pacific Whale Foundation table on the morning of the contest starting at 9:00 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded at 12:30 p.m.

This annual Pacific Whale Foundation event celebrates the wild dolphins that are found in Maui County's waters.
