Leeward Coast beach parks closing at night

LEEWARD COAST (KHNL) -Park users who camp on the Leeward Coast will have to start looking for alternatives again, as residents in the area and members of the Neighborhood Board are requesting that the parks be closed overnight.

In response to their concern for maintaining safety and keeping the parks clean the Department of Parks and Recreation has announced that the first of a series of beach park nighttime closures will begin on August 11, 2008.

The first three beach parks to close overnight are Nanakuli (cove and beach), Lualualei No. 2 and Pokai Bay.

All three will be closed nightly from 10pm-5am.

Other beach parks on the Leeward Coast will begin nighttime closures in the subsequent months.

Park users are being informed of these closures in advance and encouraged to seek appropriate alternatives.
