Counting down number 3: Big Island eruption
"Its extremely exciting and a rare event. There were explosions of red hot lava rock," said a Waimea resident.
Kilauea's eruption has delighted thousands over the past 25 years. And this impressive natural attraction is at it again, giving volcano viewers a spectacular and explosive show where the lava enters the ocean.
At number 2: Community in shocked

The North Shore community is shocked over the brutal killing of a harmless turtle. The Hawaiian Green Sea turtle, also known as "Honey Girl," was found dead at a local beach last Saturday. Authorities don't know who did it. Visitors and locals stopped by this makeshift memorial to pay tribute.
And the number one story: Deadly freeway accident
"We're asking for witnesses, anybody who saw the vehicle prior to the collision, please call us at 529-3499," said Captain Frank Fuji with the Honolulu Police Department.
An 18-year-old Ewa Beach woman died after exiting from a moving car on the H-1 Freeway. Police say the victim was a passenger in a car driven by a 26-year-old man. She was run over by an SUV after she flew out of the car. No arrests have been made. Police say alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the accident.
