Find unclaimed property at Rediscover Makiki event

HONOLULU (KHNL) - You could have some unclaimed property and not even know it.

Now, you'll get a chance to find out at the 2008 Rediscover Makiki: Sunset in the Park at Makiki District Park on Saturday, July 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Unclaimed Property Outreach Program will be on hand to conduct searches for unclaimed property, file claims and answer questions regarding the program.

The service is free of charge.

The State of Hawaii Unclaimed Property Program holds about $142 million of unclaimed property.  It includes dormant savings and checking accounts, unclaimed inheritances, shares of stock, uncashed personal checks, uncashed payroll checks, uncashed dividened checks, deposits held by utilities, insurance and medical refunds and safe deposit safe box contents.

In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008, the program has returned about $6 million to rightful owners.
