Investigators rule car fire as unintentional

AIEA (KHNL) - Police investigators say a car that caught on fire Tuesday morning was unintentional.

The car fire happened at the intersection of Koauka Loop and Koakua Street at 3:30 a.m.

According to Captain Terry Seelig, the catalytic converter caught on fire.  It's believed the fire spread to other parts of the car, including the tires.

Witnesses say the car sat idle with the engine running and lights on for at about an hour.  Police are not clear why.

When fire officials arrived, a man was still in the car.

He survived but is in critical condition.
