HONOLULU (KHNL) - The body of a missing diver who disappeared off Oahu's south shore was found at around 11:30am Saturday morning in waters almost 1,800ft deep.He was identified as Sergio Goes, an award winning photographer originally from Brazil.
Crews aboard The U.S. Coast Guard patrol boat the Galveston Island, spotted the body on the surface of the water during the last leg of a 6 hour search.
Those who knew Goes are shocked by his tragic death.
A good friend of Goes, Christina Simpkins said that he was a truely exceptional man and artist who gave of himself constantly without need for recognition.
"He was through and through about the art of it all," she said.
The photographer had just been awarded first place by the Society of Professional Journalists, Friday night for a photo essay he did titled "Celebrations" featured in Honolulu Magazine.
Goes is survived by a 6-year old son.
