HONOLULU (KHNL) - If you're a bottled water drinker, you may want to pay attention to this.

You may be paying more for water than gas and not even know it.

While consumers are focused on the record high prices for gas, many don't realize they're paying more, in many cases double for bottled water than they are for gas.

Keeping hydrated is tough!

And the high prices, are making it worse!

"I was really surprised the water cost that expensive," said Angie Kim.  "It's outrageous."

Angie Kim isn't alone.

John Quack of Honolulu says he drinks bottled water all the time but may have to stop.

"I think I stop to buy bottles water before that I always use bottle water that would be good for my body," said Quack.  "But now, I stop because everything's too high."

How high is too high?

At local convenience stores, you can pick up a pint for about a dollar.

With two pints to a quart, that's two dollars a quart.

There are four quarts to a gallon.

That's $8.00 for a gallon of water.

We're paying over $4.00 for a gallon of regular unleaded, but $8.00 for a gallon water.

The people we spoke with didn't even realize it.

"When you compare the two its kind of like gas isn't so bad is it," said Mary Suiter.  "So may be I'll not be complaining so much."

Mary Suiter says like gas, we really have no choice when it comes to water because it's something we need to survive.

Everyone we spoke with agree on one thing.

That drinking tap water may be something they'll do more often.
