Geophysicists doing routine check of Haleakala Volcano

HALEAKALA VOLCANO, Maui (KHNL) - Hawaiian Volcano Observatory geophysicists will conduct a routine survey of Haleakala Volcano on Maui this week.

The surveys are completed every few years to look for ground movements that might indicate a change in the activity of the volcano.

A network of 12 stations are currently being surveyed.

Haleakala last erupted several hundred years ago and is still considered active.

Repeated measurements over the past decade have shown no significant movement of the volcano.
