HILO, Big Island (KHNL) - The northbound lane of the Hakalau Bridge along Route 19 on the Big Island will be closed to traffic beginning Wednesday, July 9 while crews repair three of the bridge's underwater concrete footings.
Structural investigators say the footings were damaged by heavy rains this past winter.
Traffic will be contra-flowed and portable signals will alert drivers. Crews will also be on site to help with traffic control.
Engineers say it will take crews about a month to compete the necessary repairs.
Bridge inspectors and engineers have been monitoring Hakalau Bridge closely for more than a year.
