A whale of a contest is looking for photos

HONOLULU - (KHNL) Whale watching is now a competitive sport, of sorts. Shutterbugs who enjoy spotting those massive mammals in the ocean could get paid for it.

The Pacific Whale Foundation is sponsoring a whale watch photo contest. The contest is open to Hawaii residents and even visitors. They are looking for that special photo that captures the essence of those giant creatures.

"Whales can do so many amazing things when they're here," said a member of the Foundation.

She went on to say that the spectacular whale behavior in photos ranges from breaching, to pec flapping to tail flukes in the air.

The photographer of the winning entry receives a $200 dollar gift certificate from the Pacific Whale Foundation's Ocean store. Other prizes will also be given out to the runners-up.
