MILILANI MAUKA (KHNL) - It's the third murder-suicide on Oahu in just over two months. Police say they found a mother, father and their seven-year-old son, dead inside the family's home.
Investigators say the father killed his wife and their son, then took his own life. And police say, he left several notes to let people know what he did.
Neighbors at a Mililani Mauka subdivision along Moohele Street say they've never witnessed any signs of family trouble, saying it seems out of character for the father to commit a double murder suicide.
"He was an easy going person, always a smile. It's just a shock that something like this would happen," said neighbor, Donna Carter.
Neighbors say the father was 43-year-old Michael James, who operated his own insurance business out of the family's home. Sources say his wife Grineline was a teacher at Farrington High School, and their son's name was Michael Junior.
"Sad to know that this happened to them. As nice as he was, it's surprising to know he would do something like that," said Matthew Miles, a neighbor.
Police say a postal worker called them after finding a disturbing note inside the family's mailbox. Officers say they found Michael's body in his home office, his wife and son's bodies were in one of the bedrooms.
"It appears that the mother and child were killed sometime last night, and the suicide occurred sometime this morning," said Maj. Frank Fujii of the Honolulu Police Department.
Investigators say several more murder-suicide notes were found in the home. The Honolulu Medical Examiner is expected to conduct autopsies on Thursday to find out how each family member died.
