HONOLULU (KHNL) - An up close encounter with sharks makes national news and an Oahu man auctions off his dream home. These are the most viewed stories on KHNL.com this week.
Counting down number three: Oahu man must auction dream home.
"I'd love to stay here but this property was never in my budget range," said a homeowner.
With the slowing economy and homeowners desperate to sell, it has become a buyer's market with island real estate. One seller on the North Shore is resorting to auctioning off his property to avoid foreclosure. Even though he will probably have to sell it at a loss, he feels he has no other option.
Number two: Shark video gains national attention.
"Run, get out of there!" yelled a beach goer.
A day after KHNL News 8 first showed these dramatic images of beach goers' close encounter with a school of sharks, the video gained world-wide attention. What's attracting the attention is just how close the sharks got to a group of men and not one of the sharks attacked.
And that brings us to this week's number one story, with more than 48,000 views: close encounter with sharks.
"It's exciting. I didn't realize how neat that footage is, to see shark fins that big but I'm so glad that the sharks left and we're safe, and nothing happened," said Brigitte De Peralta.
Brigitte De Peralta is the woman who caught this amazing video. She saw a school of sharks headed directly for her family. She yelled for her husband to get out. Most of them did but a few stayed in the water. They seemed mesmerized by the action taking place right before their eyes. And in a matter of minutes, the sharks were gone but the vision of them swimming around her family remains.
