New summer program teaches students fishing basics

KAHULUI, Maui (KHNL) - Elementary school students on Maui will get to explore the world of fishing this summer.

Maui County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering a free summer program called "Fishing Just for the Fun of It" for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.

Students will learn about Hawaii's fish, ocean conservation, water safety and basic knowledge of fishing techniques.

The five-week classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the War Memorial Gym beginning June 17.
