Drug Case Opened Following Deadly North Shore Crash

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- Traffic investigators are trying to determine whether drugs played a role in Saturday's deadly crash on Oahu's North Shore.

Police say a car was traveling on Kamehameha Highway at a high rate of speed, when the driver lost control and slammed into a concrete barrier. The 30-year-old Haleiwa man died at the scene.

Sources say the Honolulu Medical Examiner's office found a glass pipe containing a leafy substance resembling marijuana on the driver.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
