Kolekole Pass Remains Closed Due to Rockslide

SCHOFIELD BARRACKS (KHNL) - Kolekole Pass will remain closed Thursday night pending cleanup and further assessment after a Wednesday rockslide.

Army and Navy officials closed the roadway Wednesday due to a rockslide on the Lualualei side of the pass. There were no reported injuries.

On Thursday morning a team of geologists and surveyors entered the area to inspect the damage. Crews worked on Thursday to remove rocks and debris, but a Navy spokesperson said that the road will remain closed Thursday night.

Crews will be back again Friday morning  to assess the situation.

Kolekole Pass connects leeward Oahu's Lualualei Naval Reservation to the army base at Schofield Barracks in central Oahu. Access to the road and the pass is restricted to military personnel, but is occasionally opened to the public during emergencies.
