Suspect in Bar Attack Guilty of Lesser Charge

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- A California man accused of brutally attacking another tourist outside a Waikiki bar was convicted of first-degree assault Monday.

Ryan Carrillo was charged with attempted murder.

He and his friends went to Moose McGillycuddy's on Lewers Street last year, and got into an altercation with Jesse Greenwood. Carrillo struck Greenwood from behind and knocked him to the ground, causing his head to slam onto the pavement.

The victim suffered brain injuries and is permanently disabled.

Carrillo's sentencing is scheduled for July 21st.
