Hawaii to Receive $6 Million in Homeland Security Grants

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- The State of Hawaii and the City & County of Honolulu have been awarded more than $6 million through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Infrastructure Protection Activities grant program.

The funding is for the protection of critical transportation infrastructure.

Major General Robert Lee says "securing the avenues our workforce use daily is critical to ensuring the welfare of the entire state."

State Civil Defense will distribute the funds to involved agencies.

DHS has also allocated $843,280 for further security improvements of the City and County of Honolulu's bus transit system.
