WAIANAE (KHNL) -- The family of a 4-year-old boy who was killed in a car accident Thursday night shared their heartbreak and pain with the public. The Miles family recalled the incident when their son, Koapaka, was thrown out of the car, while still strapped to his carseat.
The crash happened on Farrington Highway near Akowai Road in Nanakuli.
A driver of pick-up truck hit the Mile's car. The driver of the pick-up and Koapaka were thrown from their vehicles. Both died at the scene.
Koapaka's father, Kamu Miles said, "I remember taking my son out of his car seat and he was still breathing and I held him in my arms, I said 'Come back to daddy, everything is going to be okay and right before his last breath I just looked at him and told him 'Daddy loves him' and thats when I felt like he went."
Kamu and Erica Miles also shared memories of Koapaka and how he would always put a smile on people's faces.
The rest of the family is still recovering from the injuries they sustained from the crash.
