WASHINGTON, D.C. (KHNL) -- U.S. Senator Daniel Akaka has endorsed Obama for president.

Akaka says he has followed the presidential campaign closely to see which candidate would express a better vision for our country, and after giving it a lot of thought, he believes Obama is the right candidate.

He says aside from the fact that he knows Obama well, there are other reasons why he would make a great president.

"The people of Hawaii voted overwhelmingly for him in the presidential caucuses and also he was born and raised in Hawaii where as a starting point, I'm proud to have somebody from Hawaii nominated as a presidential candidate," said Akaka.  "We recognize that we're all different, we're diverse and this experience I believe expose him to the idea that diverse communities can have common goals and can work together to achieve their goals and I believe that he can bring people together in our country and between countries."

Akaka's is the 19th U.S. Senator to support Obama.

He joins Congresswoman Mazie Hirono and Congressman Neil Abercrombie as Hawaii Superdelegate for Obama.
