NPS Reopens Public Comment for Commercial Services

HALEAKALA NATIONAL PARK (KHNL) -- The National Park Service is reinitiating the commercial services planning process.

The process has been on hold while the Haleakala National Park conducted a safety stand-down of the downhill bicycle tours.

The purpose of the planning process is to evaluate the impacts of the commercial service operations, identify the appropriate level of commercial service operations at the park and to develop a framework for managing these services to provide high-quality visitor experiences while protecting the unique natural and cultural resources within the park.

The public is invited to take part in the process.

The public comment period begins now and runs through June 10.
