Two Honored as Kauai's Outstanding Older Americans

LIHUE (KHNL) -- Kauai's Outstanding Male and Female Older Americans were honored Thursday at the 42nd Annual Older American Awards Recognition Ceremony.

Naoko Ho of Waimea and Richard Kashiwabara of Lihue were named Kauai's 2008 Outstanding Older Americans.

The awardees were selected from a field of sixteen nominees.

Ho, a retired teacher, was recognized for her volunteer work with numerous organizations.  She is a long-time member of the West Kauai Lions Club as well as the Japanese Cultural Society.  She serves as a board member for the Waimea Alumni & Friends Association.

Kashiwabara was honored for his volunteer work helping veterans, community organizations and people in need.  Retired as an electrician from the County of Kauai, Kashiwabara can be seen at various volunteer sites, continuing his life of service.

Ho and Kashiwabara will be honored on May 22 at a statewide recognition ceremony on Oahu.
