Kapalua Fire Caused by Vehicle

KAPALUA, Maui (KHNL) -- A fire that burned an estimated 60 acres in Kapalua Thursday afternoon was ignited by a car's exhaust system while it was parked over tall grass.

The fire was first reported at 3:00 Thursday and extinguished by 9:35 Friday morning.

Fire personnel conducted mop up operations to the fire overnight.

The fire was located about 1/4 mile above an area known as Pineapple Hill on the west side of Maui.

No homes were threatened and no injuries were reported.
