Parents of Girl Who Fell Three Stories Grateful to Neighbors

WAIPAHU (KHNL) -- The parents of a little girl who fell several stories in Waipahu Wednesday night say their daughter is doing better.

Four-year-old Talalia is being called a miracle child, after surviving a fall from the balcony of her family's apartment three stories up.

"I think she's doing good," Virgil Samuela, girl's father, said. "She's a very strong girl."

The injured child left the Pupuole Street apartment building in critical condition Wednesday night. Neighbors rushed out to help her, after hearing her hit the ground.

"I would like to thank our neighbors that helped us out yesterday with the emergency calls, and for being patient and not trying to rush to pick her up or anything," Samuela said.

For the girl's mother, it's a feeling of helplessness.

"You're in shock. You don't know what to do," she said. "I mean, you're just hoping that it's not your child and you're hoping, I mean, I looked down there and I just seen her. And, you know, it's terrible."

She says Talalia is now in serious condition, and is starting to respond.

"Thank you for your prayers and your concerns," the girl's mother said. "And we just hope that, wish the best for Talalia right now."

Police responded to the incident, but say there's no criminal investigation.
