HONOLULU (KHNL) -- The fate of a California man accused of brutally attacking another tourist outside a Waikiki bar is now in the hands of an Oahu judge.

Ryan Carrillo is charged with attempted murder. Attorneys delivered closing arguments in the non-jury trial Tuesday.

Prosecutors say the defendant and his friends went to Moose McGillycuddy's on Lewers Street last year, and got into an altercation with Jesse Greenwood. Carrillo is accused of striking Greenwood from behind and knocking him to the ground, causing his head to slam into the pavement.

The defense argues the victim, who suffered brain injuries, had been consuming alcohol and was the instigator.

The judge is scheduled to announce his verdict May 19th.
