Professional Photographer Gives Tips on Capturing Great Photos

HALEMAUMAU (KHNL) -- Bring your tripod. That's the advice of one of our viewers, a professional photographer, who sent some volcano photo tips in via our Talk Story link.

David Yee of Hilo says anyone visiting Halemaumau Crater from dusk to nightfall should use a tripod even when using point and shoot cameras.

He says he's encountered a lot of disappointed tourists who are frustrated that their night photos of the volcano don't turn out.

Even with point and shoot cameras, he recommends purchasing one that allows long exposure times.

David's photographs of the crater were shot on a tripod and with the camera shutter open anywhere from three to 15 seconds.
