Possible Snake Sighting Aboard Marine Base

MARINE CORPS BASE (KHNL) -- Marine Corps Base Hawaii received a report of a possible snake sighting aboard the base Wednesday morning.

A base resident reported seeing a greenish-brown snake about two feet in length at about 7:30 a.m.

Following the report, MCB personnel contacted the State Department of Agriculture and conducted an immediate search of the area.

HDOA also conducted a brief search that afternoon, followed by a search in the evening with a team of 18 trained treesnake detection personnel.

No snakes were detected in any of the searches.

Inspectors set seven snake traps and will continue to monitor the area for the next several weeks.

Snakes are illegal in Hawaii and no one, including military personnel, is authorized to bring snakes into the state.
