Coast Guard Airlifts Sick Crew Member to Hospital

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- A U.S. Coast Guard rescue aircrew airlifted an ill man from a motor vessel about 20 miles southwest of the Big Island Tuesday morning.

The cargo vessel's master contacted the Coast Guard at about 8:00 a.m. to report the distress.

The vessel was then directed closer to shore and a helicopter was launched from Oahu.

The 22-year-old man, suffering from abdominal pain, was flown to Kona Hospital.
