KAUNAKAKAI, Molokai (KHNL) -- Some of the most pristine and environmentally-sensitive land on Molokai has been donated to Molokai Land Trust.
A binding agreement to gift 1,600 acres of the Mokio parcel has been signed by Molokai Properties Limited and the Land Trust.
The Mokio parcel has five miles of spectacular, remote and rugged coastline. It stretches along the north shore of Molokai between Moomomi and Illio Point.
"This gift of land to the Trust is evidence of the Ranch's commitment to give back significant legacy lands to the community," said Colette Machado, President, Board of Trustees, Molokai Land Trust.
Under the agreement, the Land Trust will retain ownership of the land parcel from the State's Ilio Point parcel at Anapuka to Keonelele and the Moomomi Preserve boundardy.
The Molokai Land Trust has guaranteed to keep the donated parcel in conservation in perpetuity.
