HONOLULU (KHNL) -- A major Oahu homebuilder and a Honolulu solar company are teaming up to provide solar power at Oahu Community.
Schuler Home's new Kahiwelo Development at Makakilo and Hoku Solar will offer home buyers two kilowatt photovoltaic systems.
They convert solar energy into electricity and could save homeowners $25,000 over 25 years.
"Both of our companies have a strong commitment to the islands," said Mike Jones, division president. "Offering our homebuyers this kind of innovative technology is part of our dedication to creating a long-term, sustainable future for Hawaii, while delivering an immediate cost savings opportunity to local families."
Solar water heating systems and other energy efficient appliances and features are offered in the homes, the builder considers sustainably designed.
The subdivision will have 474 homes; scheduled to be built between now and 2015.
