New Football League Provides Year-Round Game

WAIKELE (KHNL) -- It's springtime, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy football.

A new flag football league just started its inaugural season and welcomes everyone and anyone to play.

No huge stadiums.

No sell-out crowds.

But still all the fun.

It's's first season in Hawaii.

"I no more nothing to do on Sundays, so I thought Sunday's would be good to play football," said Eli Siliga from the Team Rebels.

"Feels like 30 being 13. Yeah, feels pretty much like reliving the childhood days," said Reggie Glenn of the Team Red Star.

The league started in Southern California last year and branched out to Hawaii this year.

The goal -- provide a year round league for players to enjoy, no matter your skill level.

"Yeah, we got division one, to coach potatoes, to grandfathers, to uncles," said Cory Asuncion of the Team Darkside.

Games are organized with referees and statisticians.

The league also has a rulebook.

But teams don't need to go that all out.

"We don't even practice at all, I don't even know half of these guys names yet, so it's crazy."

"All your friends get together, everybody get together, just camaraderie, get together, have fun."

"It's not really more about the score, it's more aloha, everybody with everybody. That's the main thing. And everybody gets to know everybody, barbeque, stuff like that."

And you might learn something along the way.

"Are you realizing you're not as young as you thought you were?"

"Oh yeah, feeling it right now bro. Icy Hot all day long, when I get home."

The current season runs until April, with playoffs at the end of the month.

The next season starts in June.
