Hawaii Schools Getting Safe Playground Equipment

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- Safe and accessible playground equipment will be installed at 17 public schools on the Big Island, Kauai, Maui and Oahu.

It's part of an ongoing effort by the state to improve the safety of playgrounds at schools statewide.

"School playgrounds encourage social interaction and physical fitness while offering an important counterpart to the classroom experience," said Governor Linda Lingle. "This project will provide schools with age-appropriate playground equipment and ensure that students have a safe place to play."

The project is scheduled to be completed by December 2009.

Kalanianaole Elementary & Intermediate School

Kauai
Koloa Elementary School
Waimea Canyon Middle School

Maui
Kula Elementary School
Pukalani Elementary School

Oahu
Enchanted Lake Elementary School

Hawaii Center for the Deaf and Blind
