HONOLULU (KHNL) -- Jim Donovan is the new director of athletics for the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
The University of Hawaii Board of Regents made the announcement at a meeting Thursday.
"I am delighted that Jim Donovan will be serving as UH Manoa's Athletics Director. Jim's vision, experience and ability, combined with his passion for UH Manoa and bond with Hawaii, make him a great match for ensuring the future success of our athletics programs," said UH Manoa Chancellor Virginia S. Hinshaw.
Donovan currently serves as executive director of the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl, and he received his BA from UH Manoa and graduated with honors from the UH Manoa Executive MBA program. As a student-athlete in 1981 and '82, Donovan played offensive guard on the UH football team and earned All-WAC honorable mention honors. He worked his way up in athletics administration, first serving as a graduate assistant football coach, baseball stadium manager, sports marketing director, assistant athletic director and associate athletic director.
Donovan was appointed to a five-year term as director of athletics.
He replaces Herman Frazier, who was ousted earlier this year.
