HONOLULU (KHNL) -- Matson Navigation Company is raising its fuel related surcharge by 2.25 percentage points, from 31.5% to 33.75%, for its Hawaii, Guam and Micronesia services.
Matson senior vice president David Hoppes says fuel related expenses remain a major cost component for the company.
"Fuel prices have continued to be adversely affected by unprecedented demands for oil in the world market," said Hoppes. "While we recognize the impact these increases have on our customers and consumers in general, fuel consumption is an avoidable cost that touches virtually all aspects of our operations."
The company's last fuel increase was in January.
