HONOLULU (KHNL) -- More than a thousand people woke up bright and early Friday morning to shop in Ala Moana's new retail expansion wing.
Bumping music, lei, and makeup were part of the opening day festivities at Ala Moana's new retail wing expansion which includes retail giant Nordstrom.
Heather Musuni is visiting the islands from San Diego.
"Oh my god, it's crazy. It's so fun, it's like a party, it's a good DJ."
Musuni gets her makeup done.
"She's done my eye make up and some mascara and just enjoying the coffee and snacks," she said.
The two-level shopping add on to America's largest outdoor shopping center has 30 new stores and 16 open Friday.
"It's going really well, I didn't expect there to be so many people and yeah it's fun they are giving out free stuff and who doesn't like that," Tricia Kavle said.
People were lined up for hours.
Lionel Sakamoto waits with a group of women.
"I'm the water boy. I'm a gofer, gofer this gofer that," he said.
After a quick blessing, the new Nordstrom opens.
"We just feel so fortunate and blessed to be able to be in one of the premier shopping centers in the country, but to be here in Hawaii with these terrific people and the reception here is hard to describe," Blake Nordstrom said.
After two and a half years of waiting, these shoppers already know the new section of Ala Moana mall, is now open.
