HONOLULU (KHNL) -- Hawaii's "Chefs of Aloha," Chef Chai and Chef Fred, took first place in the International Restaurant Show's Chef's Challenge in Las Vegas.
Chai Chaowasaree is the owner/chef of Singha Thai Cuisine and Chai's Island Bistro in Aloha Tower Marketplace and Fred DeAngelo is executive chef/owner of Ola at Turtle Bay Resort.
The Chefs of Aloha competed against Las Vegas Chef Anthony Amoroso of Michael Mina and Executive Chef Martin Heierling of Sensi.
The chefs had 45 minutes to prepare two dishes from scratch using a secret ingredient: carrots.
"We walked up on stage where we had lots of ingredients and it took some time just to decide what you wanted to use and then to find what you wanted," said Chef Chai. "We finished plating with minutes to spare!"
