Cell Phone Waiting Areas Open at Neighbor Isle Airports

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- The State Department of Transportation has opened a cell phone waiting area at three neighbor island airports.

The new cell phone waiting areas at Hilo International, Kahului and Lihue airports are a similar concept to one at Honolulu International Airport.

The area allows people to park for free while they wait for a cell phone call from arriving passengers.

The cell phone waiting areas are located on:

Hilo: at the Commuter Air Terminal, west of the passenger main.  The area is open from 5 a.m. to close of business daily.

Kahului: along Hemaloa Street, next to the UPS cargo facilities.  The lot is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Lihue:  curbside along Hoolimalima Place, next to the Car Rental facilities.  The area is open from 5 a.m. to close of business daily.

Users will be allowed to wait up to an hour on the property.
