WASHINGTON, D.C. (KHNL) -- Congresswoman Mazie Hirono voted for a bill that will aid efforts to expand renewable energy sources and create thousands of new jobs.
The House of Representative passed the Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Tax Act by a vote of 236-182.
The bill makes new investments that will help reduce dependence on foreign oil, increase renewable electricity production and protect the enviroment.
Hawaii currently relies on imported petroleum to provide about 90% of its energy.
