Kilauea Bridge Project in Progress

KILAUEA (KHNL) -- Work on the Kilauea Bridge replacement project on Kauai is underway.

The existing one-lane bridge, built over the Kilauea stream in 1913, has deteriorated and is being replaced.

The bridge will be closed starting March 5 for the duration of the project.  Traffic will be re-routed to the main entrance to Kilauea town via Kolo Road.

The new two-lane concrete bridge will span 102 feet long, 35 feet wide and will have a weight limit of 20 tons.

The project is expected to be completed in about a year.
