Only Labeled HI-5 Beverage Containers Can Be Redeemed

LIHUE (KHNL) -- A new rule takes effect at recycling centers on Kauai.

Starting March 1, consumers will only be able to redeem beverage containers holding up to two-liters or 68 fluid ounces if the HI-5 refund value appears on the labels.

To receive a refund, visit any of the bottle redemption centers on the island:

Hanalei - located at the Hanalei Community Center, open Tuesday, 8 am to 2 pm. 

Kapahi - located behind Menehune Food Mart on Kawaihau Road, Tuesday to Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm. Closed for lunch, 12 to 1:30 pm.

Kekaha - located at the Kekaha Landfill, Wednesday and Saturday, 8 am to 4 pm.

Kôloa - located next to the Kôloa fire station, Thursday and Sunday, 8 am to 4 pm.

Lâwa‘i - located next to the Lâwa‘i Post Office, Wednesday and Saturday, 8 am to 12 pm.

Lîhu‘e - located at the Kaua‘i Resource Center, daily, except Wednesday and Sunday, 7:30 am to 4:15 pm. Closed for lunch, 11 to 11:45 am.

Nâwiliwili - located near the old Hale Kaua‘i building, Tuesday to Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm. Closed for lunch, 12 to 1:30 pm.

Customers are advised to sort their containers before going to the centers.  The redemption centers will only accept HI-5 containers that are clean and empty.
