Lava Flows Threatening Subdivision

HONOLULU (KHNL) - Numerous lava flows from Kilauea Volcano continue to threaten the Royal Garden subdivision.

Lava has been spewing from the same fissure since November 2007.

Officials at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory say a second lava flow remained active between the rootless shields and Kalalua Cone.

Most homes in the area have been abandoned or destroyed over the past 24 years of current eruptive activity.

Geologists say the two remaining homes do not appear to be threatened.
