Vog Conditions at High Level on Big Island

BIG ISLAND (KHNL) -- The vog conditions in the past few days, and especially Monday, is at a very high level in various areas of Hawai'i Island, including Puna, Hilo and Kohala districts.

The Department of Health has issued a burning ban for Hawai'i Island.

American Lung Associations recommends the following:

  1. Drink plenty of liquids to help your body, and it is recommended that warm liquids seem to work best.
  2. Stay indoors and in an air-conditioned area, if possible, and leave the heavy vog area.
  3. Do limit any outdoor and physical activities.
  4. Contact your doctor as soon as possible if any problem develops as respiratory problems might deteriorate much more rapidly in heavy vog conditions.

The National Weather Services indicated that normal trade wind is not expected to return until the end of this week, so do expect vog conditions to remain for a while.
